The University of Richmond had a rigorous ethics program for 160 years, after all it was a Baptist school firmly rooted in Judeo-Christian values. It threw this ethics program out the window. I daresay one can likely not even mention the word “Christianity” on the U of R campus without being shouted down and then accused of a hate crime by the Brown Shirts running the campus.
Never fear dear reader, the University of Richmond has Dr. Jessica Flanigan, a muddled thinker of the first degree who is the Richard L. Morrill chair in Ethics and Democratic Values. She is a proponent of Effective Altruism where academic elites take your money and give it away to fund their version of Morality. In this morality system, “defective” children can be killed. That’s right killing children. What will they call this “Post-Womb Abortion?” While it is ok to kill children, it is impermissible for a doctor to tell his patients things that might hurt their feelings. Telling a morbidly obese fat person they are likely to have a heart attack and die is verboten! Better to let them croak so their feelings aren’t hurt!
It's ok to run Dr. Mengele brutal experiments on babies in the womb, after all, they are just a blob of cells. She thinks we need to establish a universal base income, i.e., give people money for sitting on their ass. After all it is “ethical” to rob people of their dignity and make them slothful wards of the state!
Drug dealers deserve reparations from the government. Seat belt laws give drivers and passengers too much stress and cause mental problems. Yet, all those who have not taken the Covid vax should be treated as lepers, lose their jobs, be fined, and sued. She believes our wide-open southern border is a good thing because it reduces global poverty. And of course, white men are bad. She is an advocate for “market feminism,” another gobbledygook academic term meant to sound impressive, but really is a man hating quota system.
She’s really good at throwing out philosophical buzz words, but really bad at thinking. She is unable to grasp that her emotive stances lack a consistent and reasoned theme, a clear sign of a weak brain. Virtually all her ethical solutions to non-existent problems involve the coercive power of the state.
I guess because she is not a complete Marxist, perhaps believing that some people should own their own property and maybe set their own prices, she thinks she is a Libertarian.
